About Julia / Jules
Fine Art Photographer
Welcome. I’m Jules. A bit about me.
For almost 20 years, photography has been the constant rhythm in my life, no matter where I am. I’m based between Sydney and the Gold Coast, but my work takes me all over Australia, chasing light, stories and the small, fleeting moments that make people who they are.
I shoot in a candid, documentary-inspired style, focusing on genuine connection rather than posed setups. I do occasionally offer gentle direction, especially with little ones or shifting light - to ensure the images feel natural while still beautifully composed.
I love capturing the true nature of the people I photograph, and turning those moments into artwork for your home. Images feel different when they’re printed - they become part of your story. My favourite part of this work is capturing who you really are - the softness, the connection, the quiet in-between moments. And I shoot with intention: creating pieces meant to be displayed. Photographs take on a different life when printed; they become art, emotion, and a daily reminder of the love in your home.
Away from the lens, I have a long-term partner and I’m a very lucky bonus mum to eight-year-old, Jack. They’re the grounding centre of my world. Professionally, I’ve spent years working in family and commercial photography, and have a strong affiliation with Africa, wildlife and underwater imagery. Yet no matter where my career has taken me, my heart always turns back to maternity photography and personalised portraiture — a space I simply cannot walk away from.
I’ve always been drawn to clean lines and simplicity. I shoot for the wall, creating images meant to live in your home, to become a part of your everyday life. And nothing inspires me quite like the beach at sunrise. Maybe it comes from growing up in Western Australia, spending early mornings in the ocean with Dad — those salty, golden hours that shaped who I am. Anything that incorporates water still feels like home, and it’s where I create my best work.
But just as much as I love the ocean, I adore shooting at home. There’s something intimate and grounding about capturing people in their own space — the familiarity, the quiet, the truth of it. Black and white imagery and the play of shadows are a constant source of inspiration for me; they reveal details, textures and emotions that colour sometimes hides. In those moments, whether in a sunlit bedroom or a softly lit corner, the real story always comes forward.
I love exploring opportunities with my clients - either designing the perfect photographs for the walls of their home before we shoot, or something different.
Feel free to get in touch and say hello.
